Radio exercise this Sunday

Hi to all central Victorian based radio amateurs (and all others who may be taking an interest in our setting up of a “Radio Watch” in our shire). Our Castlemaine coffee morning will take place as usual on the last Sunday of the month – 28 August 2022.

Then, from 2 pm to 4 pm, we will have an “activity day” which is a radio event where the object is to contact as many other radio stations as possible.

We will use the VK3RCV repeater and 146.550MHz simplex (moving off if you want to chat longer)

This particular event will use the two metre band to allow the new licencees a chance to operate with handhelds.

You can operate from your home or from anywhere else, portable or mobile.
If you haven’t got suitable facilities yet you can join up with an established operator and share their gear, you can even be a “second operator” if you’re still studying for your licence.

I will set up at the Burke and Wills monument in Castlemaine if anyone would like to join me there.

You should keep a log of your contacts for later comparison.

Some of our group are also going out to Mt Tarrengower and possibly Mt Alexander and we usually get the public quite interested when we do.

(There’s even a possibility of some of our newest and more remote members taking a trip to the top of Mount Macedon for the event).

Be prepared to promote our activities and amateur radio in general (posters and flyers).
My intention is to get this story into the press and amateur radio Facebook groups so please take photos of the activity that are suitable for publication – we may have to write our own article.

There will be no need for a simultaneous Zoom as previously announced
