Dayton report, self driving cars, Yaesu update, rig repair and a generous donation

A great meeting in Woodend this month. Joe opened the meeting and accepted a generous gift from Pam McDiamid after the sale of gear from the late Graeme McDiamid, VK3NE.

Pam said that throughout his life Graeme had greatly enjoyed the activities and fellowship of the club and she wanted to give back something in return.

We are deeply grateful for the generous donation and are looking for ways to best invest it in the club.

Barry, VK3BRT, represented the club at the recent Dayton Hamvention and gave us a report of what he’d seen. We marvelled at his ability not to fill his luggage with new gear – returning instead with a lovely little screwdriver set. Barry also talked about and showed video of a ride in a self driving Uber Jaguar which seemed to do an excellent job of navigating the busy traffic in Cupertino and even knew to slow down as it approached a speed hump.

The special guest this month was Guy DeSimone, VK3GUY, who showed a range of recent Yaesu gear, a low noise switching supply and a power/SWR meter he has had specially customised for Australian conditions.

Guy also aligns and repairs gear and he talked about the test equipment he favours, and IFR tester:

After the meeting many members headed off for lunch in Woodend.
