ALARA 50th celebration

Australian Ladies Amateur Radio Association (ALARA) was formed in 1975 and is celebrating it’s 50th year.

Jenny Wardrop, VK3WQ, came along to tell us about the celebration and brought a display of certificates and awards from their historical collection.

Austine Henry, VK3YL, wasn’t the first VK3 YL but was probably the best known VK3 in the early days because she worked so many contests in many countries. She was literally known worldwide.

The extensive display was fascinating and brought back memories of our old limited license certificates which, in the 70’s looked similar to much earlier versions.

Dallas James, VK3EB, visiting from our friends in Shepparton, was honoured with the coveted certificate of appreciation from the Macedon club in appreciation of his work on setting up the new web SDR and his excellent presentation on the technology at a past meeting.

Dallas often joins the Wednesday 80m net from his home and always puts in a good signal. It’s great to have visitors from Shepparton.

After a well attended meeting members retired to the near-by Milko cafe for a sumptuous lunch in Woodend.
